Dimapur, March 27 (MExN): The Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF) has responded to the “whimsical “ statement issued by the Chumukedima Village Council on March 17 in the local dailies , advocating the “change of nomenclature of Dimapur” into “Kuda City” and the district into Chumukedima district.
“The statement of the Chumukedima Village Council is nothing but sheer idiosyncrasies of big headed individuals who are eager to create a situation out of the peaceful atmosphere probably to earn a name for themselves,” DDCF retorted in a rejoinder issued by its president Hokiye Yepthomi, general secretary I Temjen Jamir.
It also stated that such ideologies and “isms” would not be of any help for the Nagas because it is not only Chumukedima Village Council who can make such “tall claims”. “Other Nagas also will have their own history and reasons to claim Dimapur if they want. Yet, they probably preferred to be silent in order to live peacefully with their neighbors,” it added.
It mentioned that on May 25, 2010, leaders of more than 30 organisations under Dimapur district came together at Thahekhu Village Council Hall, Dimapur and had a consultative meeting. In the meeting, it was resolved not to change the name of Dimapur in the future under any circumstances. The forum ion the interest of every citizen of Dimapur has appealed every individual or groups not to “raise this issue time and again”.
