DIMAPUR, APRIL 10 (MExN): The Nagaland Garo Mothers' Association (NGMA), the Western Chakhesang Mothers' Association (WCMA), the Zeme Council Northeast India (ZCNEI), and the Zeliang Students’ Union Nagaland (ZLSU) have joined others in condemning the alleged sexual assault and murder of a woman from Mhaikam Village on April 7.
The victim, a young mother, was found dead in the Pimla area and the police are currently investigating the case.
Expressing deep shock and outrage, the NGMA termed the incident a “heinous crime” that must be condemned by all. Calling for the ‘highest and severest punishment,’ the association urged law enforcement agencies to swiftly investigate, arrest the perpetrator, and award the harshest penalty as per the law.
The WCMA also conveyed its ‘deep shock and anguish’ over what it called a “vicious act of rape and murder.” Decrying the continuing violence against women, the association urged the authorities to take swift action and deliver justice.
The ZCNEI, expressing its outrage, described the incident as a heinous crime and a grave affront to collective humanity. “The brutal nature of the crime is a slap in the face to the values of compassion, empathy, and respect for human life,” it stated.
It further condemned the “senseless violence and brutality” inflicted on the victim and her family, and demanded a transparent and swift investigation to ensure justice. The Zeme Apex Body of Assam, Manipur, and Nagaland also called on all responsible citizens to press law enforcement agencies for immediate, decisive action and work collectively toward a safer, just society.
The ZLSU termed the act “despicable and barbaric,” describing it as a direct assault on human dignity and a chilling reminder of the depravity that can exist in society. It condemned the act in the strongest possible terms and demanded that the concerned authorities act without delay, using all available resources to identify, arrest, and award the harshest punishment to those involved.
“Justice delayed is justice denied, and the blood of the innocent cries out for swift retribution,” it said. The ZLSU also urged every right-thinking citizen to rise above fear and unite in condemning the act, declaring, “Let it be known: the Zeliang Students’ Union will not remain silent in the face of such evil. May justice be swift, uncompromising, and complete.”
Meanwhile, the ZLSU, WCMA, and NGMA have expressed deep sorrow and extended heartfelt solidarity with the bereaved family, praying for strength and healing during this time of profound pain, and for the eternal rest of the departed soul.
They reaffirmed their commitment to building a society where women and girls can live free from violence and pledged to continue the pursuit of justice.
