Kohima, July 7 (MExN): With the rest of the world, the Nagaland state Directorate of Health & Family Welfare observed World Zoonoses Day at IDSP Hall, DHFW on July 7.
The event chair Dr Limasenla Lemtur (State Epidemiologist) reminded the reason of the gathering was to bring awareness, combat and reflect the zoonoses diseases and to collaborate and protect our health. A PowerPoint presentation on the current scenario in Nagaland was presented by Dr Nounengulie Kire (Consultant/ Public Health Specialist).
Dr Mereninla Senlem, Principal Director, H&FW gave the keynote address. In her address Dr Mereninla shared the importance of One Health approach, which takes into consideration that human, animals, plants and broader ecosystem co-exist in a delicate interdependent manner. She also talked about working in collaboration with other allied department to promote intensive awareness and prevention.
During the interactive session, Dr Amenla Walling, Jt Director Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department also shared on how their department was more focused into Clinical aspect rather than Preventive. She also highlighted about how zoonoses disease can create havoc if not treated or prevented on time. She stressed on the need for collaboration and coordination with the Medical Department to share Datas on the reports of dog bites.
The programme was attended by the officers from Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, Officers and staff of the Directorate.
