Different Worlds

As someone who occasionally travels out of state, I am constantly reminded of the state of backwardness of Nagaland. While other states are developing with thumping momentum and enviable energy, Nagaland remains stagnant, more or less. The most telling example is the road sector. Seamless connectivity and smooth transition in neighbouring states like Assam while we in Nagaland have to be content with bad roads like a cruel joke.

After a certain point of time, you have to question the intent and vision of our leadership. The public cannot be blamed every time for selling votes and lacking spine. Serious soul searching is the need of the hour - from top to bottom. Nagas are fast coming to be characterized as easy, rather too simple, extremely money-minded and easily manipulated by outsiders.

With every developmental step the rest of India takes, Nagaland remains stuck in time - like a broken clock. This is not to paint a dark and gloomy picture of the state but rather to point out the glaring gaps that are only widening each day and adversely affecting our society. The question that arises from all these is : What kind of legacy are we leaving behind for our children? Do we allow them the freedom and space to pursue their dreams and ambitions like their peers in other parts of the country or forever remain in a decrepit state of uncertainty where the future is only for a selected few? Time to make up our minds and take a stand, fellow Nagas. As it is, we're already far behind the caravan.

God save my Nagaland.
