Dimapur, August 5 (MExN): The Office of the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer (DEO), Dimapur, convened a meeting with members of village councils and town councils on August 5 in connection with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
As per the DIPR report, the meeting was attended by chairmen of all Village and Town Councils under Dimapur-I, Dimapur-II and Dimapur-III Assembly Constituencies, along with one Gaon Bura (GB) from each respective area. The meeting aimed to facilitate discussions and ensure the effective implementation of the SIR process.
DC & DEO, Dimapur, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, NCS in his opening remarks appealed to all citizens to extend full cooperation to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during the ongoing SIR of the Photo Electoral Rolls, 2026 to ensure an accurate, complete and updated electoral roll.
He informed that BLOs will conduct house-to-house visits from August 16 to September 14, for the distribution and collection of Enumeration Forms (EFs) within their respective polling station areas. He also requested electors to keep passport-size photographs ready, as these are mandatory for smooth and timely verification during the visits.
The DEO further called upon all Administrative Officers, Village Councils, Village Development Boards (VDBs), Gaon Buras (GBs), Colony Councils, Ward Authorities and other stakeholders to assist the BLOs, widely publicise the programme and encourage residents to remain available during the house-to-house verification process.
Addressing the gathering, Assistant Election Officer, Dimapur, Toshimongba Longchar, outlined the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision. He informed that the draft electoral roll will be published on September 20, 2026, followed by the period for filing claims and objections from September 20 to October 20, 2026. Hearings and disposal of claims and objections will continue until November 18, 2026, while the final electoral roll will be published on November 22, 2026. He added that the qualifying date for the revision is October 1, 2026.
Longchar also informed that electors with mapping issues, anomalies or discrepancies may be required to appear before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) with the documents prescribed by the Election Commission of India.
