Dimapur on alert; SP issues safety advisory

Dimapur, July 20 (MExN): Indications of a possible terror attack in Dimapur have been awakened with Police and the Army receiving reports and ‘rumours’ of explosives being smuggled into the business hub in Nagaland. A Police Officer attached to the East Police Station said they had received information of a cache of RDX and IEDs entering Dimapur. The Army and the Assam Rifles are also in the know of this, he said. 

A military source in Rangapahar said ‘rumours’ of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland intending to “do something” in Dimapur was being looked into. Security forces and Police are on alert and acting according to the situation, the Police source said. It was further informed that an additional company of the Indian Reserve Police has been requisitioned. Vulnerable spots such as the Dimapur Railway Station and other busy areas such as markets are under tight vigil, Police said.

Mention may be made that the SP Dimapur had only a few days back issued safety information for public alertness. According to the do’s and don’ts for public safety, people have been told to be alert ‘to people and things around you’. Public have been told to look for abandoned/unidentified or unclaimed bags, briefcases, dolls, transistors, packets and any other suspicious articles in any public place such as railway stations, cinema halls, hotels, bus stations, taxi stands, market place or buses and trains.

“Look for any vehicles parked suspiciously for unusual prolonged time; If you see any suspicious person in any crowded/abandoned place moving about in a suspicious manner inform the Police; keep away from suspicious objects; do not accept any gifts from unknown persons; before sitting in buses, trains, taxis, cinema halls and other public places please look under your seats for un-attended objects; advise children not to accept gifts like toys etc. from unknown persons; look for suspicious people in your neighborhoods; check the antecedents of your tenants or persons wanting to rent your premises or seek police assistance in verification; in case of suspicions, inform Police Control Room Dimapur (100)”, according to the do’s that the public have been told to follow.

Similarly, the don’ts include not to spread rumors and if there are doubts ring-up Police Control Room (100). The safety advisory also directs people not to leave bags and belongings un-attended. These may create suspicion and lead to panic.

“Don’t crowd in public place like railway station, bus stand, crowded Market places like Hong Kong Market, New Market; don’t touch any abandoned articles such as bags/briefcases/packets or any other suspicious articles in any public place; do not touch toys, or transistors or electronic articles if they are not attended. They may be bombs or may trigger off a bomb; do not touch any suspicious articles; do not disturb any suspicious article”.
