A new development in the minor sexual abuse case in Dimapur saw the police arresting the sibling of the prime accused for allegedly compromising the identity of the victim.
As per reliable sources, the accused Watimeren Jamir’s, alias O Wati Jamir, sister was arrested on June 8, day before the protest rally organised by the Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) on June 9.
Police recorded her statement regarding the circulation of a video clip that reportedly exposed the victim’s face and name, violating the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. She successfully applied for bail subsequently. Her bail application was upheld by the court the next day.
While police have not released an official statement, the arrest followed demands for the police acting on the alleged public circulation of the victim's details.
