Dimapur Police declare ‘Red Zone’ for drones on August 15

Dimapur, August 12 (MExN): Authorities have declared a two-kilometre radius around three key venues in Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland as “Red Zone” (No Fly Zone) for drones and Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) on Independence Day, citing security concerns.

The restriction will remain in force from 2 am to 6 pm on August 15, 2026, according to an order issued by Commissioner of Police Dimapur, Aotula T Imchen, IPS.

The prohibited zones cover the Dimapur DDSC Stadium, Chümoukedima Samaguting Stadium, and Niuland Public Ground.

The order has been issued under Rule 24 of the Drone Rules, 2021, in view of the ensuing Independence Day celebrations. No person will be allowed to operate drones or remotely piloted aircraft within the designated red zones without prior permission from the competent authority.

The police commissioner said the order was passed ex-parte due to security exigency, as it was not possible to serve individual notices to all concerned. It will be disseminated through press releases and by affixing copies on the notice boards of all DCPs, ADCPs, ACPs, and police stations within the commissionerate.
