DNSU seeks government response on Dimapur businessman case

DIMAPUR, October 23 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed concern over what it termed as the continued inaction of the Nagaland Government in connection with the Dimapur-based businessman Nirmal Kumar Jain case.

In a statement issued by its Vice President, R Micheal Yanthan, and General Secretary, Michael Kath, the DNSU said it has been nearly six months since the Union took up the matter and submitted all relevant evidence and documents to the competent authorities.
However, it alleged that the government’s silence reflects “a concerning degree of indifference.”

According to the Union, the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur had already submitted the district’s findings to the Commissioner of Nagaland over a month ago, but the DNSU has yet to receive any official response or update from the government regarding further action.

The DNSU stated that the public is “closely watching” the government’s handling of the case, adding that the outcome would serve as a test of accountability and send a message against individuals or entities who allegedly exploit citizens through “illegal and fraudulent means.”

The Union also warned that any individuals or groups found engaging in transactions or dealings related to Nirmal Jain would face “strong resistance” from the Union and the public. It further cautioned that any government agencies, officials, groups, or civil society organizations found taking undue advantage of the issue for personal gain would be “strictly dealt with.”

Reaffirming its commitment to uphold the rights of the Naga people, the DNSU said continued inaction on the part of the government would compel it to initiate “democratic forms of protest and agitation.”

Meanwhile, it may be noted that in response to the allegations made in late August, Nirmal Jain denied any involvement in irregularities related to the issuance of an indigenous certificate or alleged links to land mafia activities. He maintained that the accusations were “false and baseless.”
