Kohima, August 14 (MExN): Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima organised a felicitation programme to honour its successful Bosconians who secured top ranks in the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) Examination 2026.
The programme was held at the School Auditorium on August 14, with Deputy Commissioner, Kohima District, B Henok Buchem, NCS, as the special guest.
The felicitation recognised the achievements of Virienuo Emilia Solo, Philomina Rutsa and Richungmong T, who secured the post of Extra Assistant Commissioner; Keneisa-ü Kense, who was selected as District Commandant; and Neiputshekho Zhünyü, who secured the post of Assistant Jailor, stated a DIPR report.
The successful Bosconians shared their experiences and highlighted the importance of obedience to God, parents and teachers, along with persistence and perseverance in pursuing one’s goals. They encouraged the students to embrace failure as part of the learning journey and recalled cherished memories of their school days. They also urged the young Bosconians to make the most of their schooling years, enjoy the journey and create lasting memories with their friends and teachers.
DC Kohima B Henok Buchem, NCS, urged the newly selected officers to uphold integrity, humility, empathy and compassion as they embark on their careers in public service. Congratulating the achievers, Buchem said their success was a matter of great pride for themselves, their families and the institution.
Buchem, himself a Bosconian, shared his personal journey into civil service, recalling how the idea first came to him as a childhood thought after hearing a classmate speak about joining the service. Despite failing in his first attempt, he persevered and eventually joined the Nagaland Civil Service in 2004.
Recalling the day his selection was announced, he said he learnt of the result through a radio bulletin while staying with his father in his hometown. Reflecting on the moment, he said the greatest joy of his success was the happiness it brought to his father.
Urging students to strive for achievements that would make their parents proud, Buchem emphasised three qualities for success—living a righteous life, obedience to parents and perseverance. He said successful civil servants were often people of “iron will and determination” who endured failures, disappointments and difficult journeys before achieving success.
Addressing the candidates as his “junior colleagues”, Buchem reminded them that civil service was not merely a prestigious career but an opportunity to serve society and contribute to the development of the State.
He stressed that administrative knowledge must be accompanied by empathy, integrity, the ability to listen and effective communication. “Authority is entrusted to a civil servant not for personal glory or status; it is for public good and public service,” he said.
He advised the young officers to be guided by the Constitution, the law and their conscience when faced with difficult decisions, while remaining humane in the exercise of authority.
Encouraging the students, Buchem said the alumni being felicitated were once students sitting in the same classrooms, and their achievements should inspire the younger generation. He urged the students not to fear failure and to develop good character, respect for others, leadership qualities and a strong sense of social responsibility.
Concluding his address, Buchem wished them wisdom, courage and humility in their new roles, reminding them that “public office is a public trust.” He urged them to serve with sincerity, work with integrity and remain connected to the people they serve.
The programme celebrated the excellence of the successful candidates while inspiring the younger generation of Bosconians to pursue their aspirations with dedication and perseverance, under the theme, “Dream. Believe. Achieve.”
The programme featured a Bible reading, an invocation prayer by Rev Dr Fr Xavier Mattam, words of welcome by Rev Fr Innocent Panmei, a special number and a vote of thanks.
