Kohima, March 3 (MExN): The Directorate of School Education (DoSE), Nagaland, has directed all schools, book sellers and libraries in the state to immediately seize and remove from circulation an NCERT Class 8 Social Science textbook.
In a notification, the DoSE instructed heads of all government and private schools, wholesalers and retailers of books, and library in-charges to ensure that all copies of the textbook — in hard or soft form — currently in circulation are forthwith seized and removed from public access. This includes copies held in storage, retail outlets and educational institutions.
The directive has been issued in pursuance of the Office Memorandum (F. No. 15-5/2026-NCERT dated February 27, 2026) issued by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, and the order dated February 26, 2026 of the Supreme Court of India in Suo Moto Writ Petition (Civil) No. 1/2026, the State DIPR stated.
The order pertains to the Social Science textbook for Grade 8 (Part 2) titled “Exploring Society: India and Beyond”, First Edition, published in February 2026 by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
