DIMAPUR, APRIL 9 (MExN): The Dimapur Rengma Youth Organisation (DRYO) has expressed its shock and condemnation over the alleged assault on a Class 10 student from Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS), Kohima, which occurred on February 20, 2025. The student is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Guwahati, battling severe injuries.
Citing reports, the DRYO stated that the attack began with verbal abuse and threats before escalating into physical violence, with the victim being repeatedly assaulted, including blows to his head and abdomen. It has strongly condemned the brutality of the assault, emphasizing that the incident highlights a breakdown in safety within the school premises.
The DRYO criticized the school administration for failing in its duty to protect students, particularly as the violence occurred during school hours. It questioned the security measures in place and called for a comprehensive investigation into both the incident and the school's failure to prevent it.
The organization demanded that the perpetrators face the full force of the law and that the school implements stricter disciplinary measures. Additionally, the DRYO urged the school to conduct a thorough review of its safety protocols and to establish effective anti-bullying programs to prevent such incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, the Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) has also condemned the assault in the strongest terms, calling the act “barbaric and brutal.” In a statement, the RSZ called for the school’s full cooperation in the investigation, while respecting the identity and safety of the students involved. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice if the investigation does not proceed as required by law.
