DWSM reviews water, sanitation initiatives in Shamator

Shamator, June 18 (MExN): The District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) reviewed the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) activities in Shamator district during a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner and DWSM Chairman, Arikumba, on June 16.

The meeting also deliberated on measures to strengthen water supply systems, sanitation infrastructure and long-term water security.

Presenting an overview of the implementation of JJM and SBM (Gramin) activities in the district, Imnaingsang Longchar, SDO, PHED, and Secretary of the DWSM, urged line departments to share water and sanitation-related data to facilitate harmonisation of information on the Ministry's online platform.

The meeting discussed measures to strengthen village water supply systems, including enhancing community awareness on the importance of operation and maintenance (O&M) for the sustainability of rural water infrastructure.

Participants also discussed improving hygiene facilities in Anganwadi centres and schools through the construction of child-friendly toilets and water stations using available government funding provisions.

The discussions further focused on promoting the conjunctive use of water resources to ensure long-term water security in the district, the State DIPR informed.
