DIMAPUR, MAY 28 (MExN): The East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) has issued a public notice prohibiting the illegal disposal of solid and liquid waste into natural water bodies within its jurisdiction, including the Dhansari River and nearby ponds.
In a directive aimed at curbing environmental degradation and safeguarding public health, the EDTC has called for the immediate cessation of all waste discharge—whether domestic, commercial, or industrial into these water bodies.
The council also directed that all sewer outlets or private drainage lines discharging waste into the Dhansari River or ponds must be removed or redirected by June 30, 2025. Additionally, the disposal of waste at the Sugar Mill Nala by individuals, households, or commercial establishments is strictly prohibited with immediate effect.
he EDTC warned that violators will face strict penalties, including fines and potential legal action under relevant environmental laws. The council urged all residents and stakeholders to cooperate in preserving the local ecosystem and ensuring the cleanliness of Dimapur’s water resources.
