EDTC reiterates ban on single-use plastic

Dimapur, June 25 (MExN): The East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) on June 25 reiterated that the ban on the manufacture, stocking, distribution, sale and use of single-use plastic (SUP) items remains in force within its jurisdiction and cutioned of strict action against violators.

In a public notice, the council informed all business establishments, commercial institutions, traders, dealers, shopkeepers, vendors, market associations and the general public that the prohibition on single-use plastic continues to be enforced in accordance with directives issued by the Government of Nagaland.

The council said it would intensify inspection and enforcement drives across its jurisdiction with immediate effect to ensure compliance with the ban.

According to the notice, any person, shop, establishment, institution or vendor found manufacturing, storing, selling, distributing or using prohibited single-use plastic items will be liable for penal action. 

The measures may include seizure of materials and imposition of fines as provided under relevant laws, rules and government notifications.

The EDTC appealed to ward councillors, citizens, business establishments, market associations and all stakeholders to cooperate in the effective implementation of the ban and support efforts aimed at curbing the use of single-use plastics.
