A fire destroyed a house at the PWD Colony, Wokha, on the afternoon of November 20.

The blaze, which broke out around 2:21 pm, also caused two LPG cylinders to explode, intensifying the fire, said Francis Singsit, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Wokha Fire Station. A fire tanker and crew were immediately dispatched to the scene.

One kuccha house with tin walls and wooden flooring was completely destroyed, and some livestock perished in the fire, the OC added.

During the operation, Duty Commander and Sub-Inspector Thenuosielie Pielie reportedly sustained a deep cut on his left ring finger after coming into contact with a sheet of tin.

He was rushed to the District Hospital, where he received four stitches and necessary medical attention, the OC confirmed.

No other injuries or casualties were reported.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be a short circuit, though further investigation is underway, the official said.

Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control and prevented it from spreading to nearby structures.
