The Naga People’s Front (NPF) 17th Chizami Area Unit administered the oath of office to its newly elected village and town unit office-bearers at the Chizami Town Hall in Phek district on July 30.
Addressing the gathering, NPF Legislature Party Chief Whip and Minister for Power & Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, underscored that every organisation, religion and nation functions under a constitution, and urged party workers to follow the NPF’s constitution.
On the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) issue, Kenye recalled that the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister in 2010, seeking a separate administrative arrangement for Eastern Nagaland.
He noted that the issue remained unresolved for several years before gaining momentum in 2023 under the present government following extensive deliberations. According to Kenye, the Tripartite Agreement signed on February 5, 2026, brought the matter to an advanced stage.
Speaking on the situation in Manipur, he said the crisis, marked by divisions among the Nagas in the hill areas, has persisted for a long time and has now escalated into a serious conflict.
He noted that the Chizami Assembly Constituency shares a porous boundary with Manipur and urged people to remain vigilant over the movement of people across the border.
The Northeast, owing to its international borders, remains geopolitically sensitive and urged the people to exercise caution in their actions and utterances, he observed.
The Minister said the Nagaland cannot fight another man's war, nor should it allow the battlefield to shift into Nagaland, adding that it is the collective responsibility of both the government and the people to maintain peace in the state.
Highlighting the Naga political issue, Kenye said the aspiration for solution remains strong among the Naga people. However, he expressed concern over the growing number of Naga Political Groups with differing demands, saying such divisions have become a stumbling block. Calling for unity among all NPGs, he said an early settlement would pave the way for peace, stability and progress in Naga society.
Reiterating that the NPF remains committed to the Naga political cause, Kenye urged party workers to stay dedicated to the party's objectives and continue working for the welfare of the people.
Earlier, Chubutse Naro, president of the NPF Phek Division, administered the oath to the newly elected village and town unit office bearers of the Chizami Assembly Constituency.
During the programme, advisors Ciekrosayi Lohe, Salünyi Krocha, Shekhozo Thülüo, Ngaonyi Lea, Nievotso Medeo, Ciekhurayi Vadeo, Kelhouvelo Tsuzuh, Vezopa Wezah and Cekropa Tenenu also addressed the gathering, urging party workers to strengthen the organisation, remain committed to the party, uphold integrity, promote inclusive development and work collectively for the welfare of the people.
Earlier, Zulhite Tsido, Working President of the Area Unit, delivered the welcome address and said the coming together of different political parties under the NPF in the Chizami Assembly Constituency was a positive development. He urged members to put aside past differences and work unitedly to strengthen the party.
The programme was chaired by Kotsope Rhakho, Working President of the Area Unit. A folk song was presented by Ngaopunyi Rume, Vice President of the Area Unit. The vote of thanks was proposed by Potokho Movi, Treasurer of the Area Unit. The invocation was offered by P. Paul Dukru, Advisor of the Area Unit, while the benediction was pronounced by Khelizulo Z. Mero, Advisor of the Area Unit.
The House reaffirmed its unwavering support and confidence in the leadership of K.G. Kenye, Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, and extended its fullest support to Dr. Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of Nagaland and President of the Naga People's Front. It also reaffirmed its commitment to work unitedly to strengthen the party under their leadership. It also extended congratulations to all the newly elected village and town unit office bearers and expressed confidence that they would serve the party with dedication, sincerity and commitment.
