Police in Manipur’s Kakching district on Saturday arrested two alleged drug peddlers including a woman with 1.015 kg of Heroin (No.4) powder, an official source said.
The arrested alleged drug peddlers were identified as Thangsuankhup (34) of Churachandpur district and Luanngihlun (44) of the same district, the police said.
The police commandos attached with Kakching district police nabbed the two persons after the contraband drugs were detected during a check of a Grand Tata Sumo they came with from Tengnoupal side at its check post Leimanai Chingjin, around noon.
During the check, the police commandos discovered 55 soap cases and two bottles of mineral water containing heroin powder weighing 1.015 kg which was concealed in the modified fuel tank of the vehicle, the police also said.
The arrested persons along with the seized items were handed over to Kakching police station where a case was lodged against them for taking up further necessary legal action.
Troops of Assam Rifles in Tengnoupal district also apprehended two alleged drug smugglers after 2.163 kg of brown sugar packed in 49 soap cases recovered during a check of a vehicle they came with on Friday.
The drugs which would worth over Rs 4.32 crores in the international market packed in 49 soap cases were recovered during a check to a Bolero vehicle at its mobile vehicle check post at Tengnoupal, the IGAR (South) said, in a press release.
The drugs were concealed under the middle seat of the vehicle. The seized narcotics along with the smugglers and the vehicle were handed over to Tengnoupal police station for further investigation, the press release added.
