Fourth hike pushes diesel closer to Rs 100-a litre in Nagaland

After petrol, the price of regular diesel in Nagaland is inching closer to the psychological Rs 100-per-litre mark following another round of fuel price hikes announced by public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) on Monday.

Retail prices of petrol and diesel were raised by nearly Rs 3 per litre effective May 25, marking the fourth hike this month.

Accordingly, regular diesel in Dimapur was retailing at Rs 95.21 per litre, up by Rs 2.71 from the previous rate of Rs 92.50.

Meanwhile, premium diesel (Extra Green) crossed the Rs 100 mark across Nagaland with the latest upward revision of prices. 

Likewise, the price of regular petrol increased from Rs 101.01 to Rs 103.67 per litre, reflecting a hike of Rs 2.66. Fuel prices remain the cheapest in Dimapur and Chümoukedima within Nagaland.

Elsewhere in the State, diesel prices were edging closer to the Rs 100-per-litre threshold.

According to data available on the IndianOil One App, diesel prices were highest in Longleng, Noklak and Shamator at Rs 97.46 per litre, while petrol was retailing at Rs 106.

Petrol prices had crossed the psychological Rs 100-per-litre mark across the State during the second revision on May 19.

Since the first hike effective May 15, regular diesel in Dimapur, which was retailing at Rs 88 per litre till May 14, has become costlier by Rs 7.21 to reach Rs 95.21 on May 25.

Similarly, petrol prices have increased by Rs 7.01 per litre during the same period, rising from Rs 96.66 to Rs 103.67.

With the latest revision, fuel prices are nearing levels last seen in early November 2021, when retail rates had touched record highs. According to The Morung Express database, petrol in Dimapur was retailing at Rs 108.34 per litre on November 3, 2021, while diesel stood at Rs 100.60.

Retail fuel prices comprise the base price charged to dealers, freight charges, excise duty, average dealer commission, and VAT, including VAT on dealer commission. Rates vary across states and may also differ between locations within the same state.
