Kohima, February 22 (MExN): The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has refuted the criticism leveled against it by the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG), as reported in local dailies on February 20. The GNF has rejected it as “baseless allegations and false accusations.”
In its rejoinder, GNF emphasised that the forum ‘take two things to heart about the Nagas: “One People, One Destiny,” which is our motto, and advocating for Nagas the human right of political self-determination in our homeland.’ The Media Cell of the GNF stated that the forum believes that Nagas do not need other people’s permission to live and govern ourselves in our own lands. The GNF also added that Nagas do not need the ‘unending imposition of the repressive military law (AFSPA) intruding into our day-to-day lives which permits the armed forces to kill us with predictable regularity, always “by mistaken identity,” without the fear of criminal prosecution.’
GNF reiterated that Nagas do not “need Indian “security forces” curbing our freedom of movement in our homeland. And we detest being fenced in and out of India in our own ancestral homeland in the name of India’s “national security.” The GNF underscored its role as a global Naga body dedicated to defending human rights, stating “the Global Naga Forum would be remiss if it did not stand up for our own human right not to be falsely and publicly accused of being something or someone we are not.”
The forum called on the WC-NNPG to respect ‘its right to truthful representation as fellow Nagas.’
