Kohima, December 17 (MExN): The Government Primary School (GPS) Upper Khomi under Phek District celebrated its golden jubilee at the school campus on December 16 with former teacher Thupuvecho Tetseo as the special guest.
Addressing the gathering, Tetseo highlighted the jubilee theme, “Celebrating 50 Years of Learning, Knowledge & Progress,” and reminded those present that learning is a continuous process, according to an update.
He stated that students and parents should recognise that schools are not the only spaces for acquiring knowledge, describing the home as “the best institution in the world,” and stressed that both students and parents share equal responsibility in ensuring quality education.
Tetseo also urged students to sincerely honour their parents, whom he described as their first and best teachers capable of shaping them in all aspects of life.
During the programme, Rev Dr Nuvocho Dzudo, Pastor, Chakhesang Baptist Church, East Dimapur, released the jubilee souvenir. Greetings were delivered by P Lohe Chachie, Senior SDEO, Phek Block, while the act of blessing was performed by Vechop A Curha, a former teacher.
Earlier, Tetseo unveiled the jubilee monolith, and the dedicatory prayer was offered by Vepoduyi Vero, Associate Pastor, Upper Khomi Baptist Church (UKBC).
Students of GPS Upper Khomi presented a special performance while a thanksgiving prayer was offered by Husapa Ruho, Pastor, UKBC.
The celebration also featured obituary references in honour of the school’s pioneers, including Late Veduzo Nienu, the first teacher of GPS Upper Khomi, and other former teachers - Late Vecüsüh Lohe of Middle Khomi, Late Kekhwetsolo of Sümi village, Late Thomas (Tangkhul Naga), Late Vesato Lohe of Porba village, Late Puthitso Sakhamo of Porba village, and Late Wetelo-u Nyenga of Upper Khomi village.
Former teachers, alumni, well-wishers and residents of Upper Khomi village attended the jubilee celebration.
