The Moatsü festival began in Sungratsü village on May 2 with the ceremonial awakening of the log drum, marking the start of Green Moatsü 2.0. Hundreds of people gathered as the rhythmic beats signalled the opening of the festival.

Moatsü Mung, a major festival of the Ao Nagas, was attended by Sentiyanger Imchen. The celebration was held under the theme, “Sobilba Lipokum – Eco Cultural Living.”
In his address, Imchen said that Moatsü, as observed in the past, centred on prayers for a good harvest and continues to promote unity among the people. He stated that the festival brings together people from different backgrounds to share in community feasts and strengthens social bonds. He acknowledged the role of the people of Sungratsü in contributing resources and support for community welfare and encouraged them to continue this practice.

Imchen also spoke about changing attitudes toward traditional festivals. He noted that earlier, celebrations such as Moatsü and Tsungremmung were viewed with concern by churches, leading to a decline in observance. He said that such festivals are now widely celebrated in both rural and urban areas.
He added that cultural festivals provide opportunities for younger generations, especially those living outside their villages, to learn about their traditions. Raising concern over the decline in the use of mother tongues among youth, he said this trend is seen across Naga communities. “If you do not know your roots and culture, how will you know your social identity?” he said, urging young people to remain connected to their heritage.
Short speeches were also delivered by S Bendang Aier, L Bendang Lemtur, and Imlitoshi Walling. The programme included folk songs and dances by different groups and concluded with a community feast.
