The 38th annual sports meet of Greenwood School, Kuda village, kicked off at the school ground on Wednesday with deputy commissioner of police, Vishal, IPS, as chief guest in the opening ceremony.
After hoisting the flag, the chief guest in his address said in life everyone encounters moments of both triumph and defeat. Likewise in games and sports too, a player or team taste victory as well as defeat. But what matters in the long run is participation and sporting spirit and not winning or losing, Vishal said.
He said participation indicates courage and hope to take one’s dreams to a higher level and is also a mark of courage. Encouraging the students to be themselves and to be prepared to face any challenge that comes their way, he also said if a person’s thoughts are pure and good, then things would always go right.
The DCP also said events such as games and sports provide the opportunity to make friends and develop camaraderie among students and urged the youngsters to make new friends before the sports meet concludes.
Vishal further congratulated the march past contingents, especially the primary section students, for the impressive parade display.
The 12 march past contingents (4 each from the higher secondary, high school and primary section) was led by Keneikhriezo Sanchu, junior under officer, 24 Nagaland NCC, as parade commander.
The students divided into four houses –Green, Red, Yellow and Blue – will be competing in various disciplines including track and field, athletic, football, volleyball, basketball and indoor games.
Earlier, principal Greenwood School, Uttam Basak, delivered welcome address and one of the school pioneers, Asa Khate, pronounced Invocation prayer.
