PHEK, MARCH 31 (MExN): The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Phek, under the ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema, conducted a training-cum-demonstration and awareness programme on soybean cultivation, sponsored by the ICAR-National Soybean Research Institute, Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

The training sessions were held in four villages—Porba, Yoruba, Lanye, and Meluri—from March 26 to 29, focusing on organic soybean farming and best cultivation practices. Dr. T. Esther Longkumer, CTO-Soil Science, led a session on organic soybean production, while Dr. Hannah K. Asangla, CTO-Agronomy, provided insights into recommended soybean cultivation techniques.

On March 31, an awareness programme was conducted at ICAR-KVK Phek, Porba, where Dr. Longkumer emphasized the potential of soybean cultivation and organic farming methods. Dr. Asangla elaborated on agronomic practices, while Dr. Sharanappa CH, SMS-Plant Protection, addressed insect pest management strategies. Dr. Venkatesh, SMS-Agriculture Engineering, highlighted the value addition potential of soybean and screened a film on value-added products.

An interactive session between farmers and scientists facilitated discussions on agricultural challenges and solutions. Inputs were distributed to participants. The programme was moderated by Dr. Harini K. R., SMS-Animal Science, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Manjunath K. S., SMS-Horticulture.
