Medziphema, July 16 (MExN): As part of the 98th ICAR foundation day celebration-cum-awareness programme and material distribution programme, ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun (ICAR-NRC on Mithun), Medziphema, Nagaland, organised an awareness programme and material distribution for improvement of mithun breeding and conservation centre at the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat.

The programme was attended by 50 participants, including 11 women, from Kabhikulai, Machi, and Louphong villages of Manipur. Conducted under the NERCOMP Project funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC), the programme included technical sessions on scientific Mithun breeding, reproductive management, improved husbandry practices, and conservation technologies.

 

Veterinary medicines, dewormers, mineral mixtures, feed supplements, and other livestock inputs were distributed to Mithun farmers. Support was also provided for the repair and strengthening of the Mithun Breeding and Conservation Centre through the provision of chairs, tables, paints and painting materials, and other repair and maintenance materials.

The programme concluded with an interactive session between farmers and scientists, highlighting ICAR-NRC on Mithun’s efforts towards sustainable Mithun farming, conservation of the species, and improving the livelihoods of Mithun-rearing communities in the North Eastern Region.
