Kohima | March 26 : Saddened by lack of planning in Nagaland, Congress MLA I. Imkong appealed to the state government to improve upon it and start reformation of planning process in the state. Participating in the discussion on motion of thanks on the Governor’s speech on Friday here at the assembly session, Imkong regretted that the state has completed 47 years of statehood but the state has been overtaken by many younger states in development front, which had got statehood much latter than Nagaland state. Imkong said proper planning process is required for infrastructure and human resource development, which is lacking in Nagaland.
Touching on upgradation of schools across the state, Imkong said that upgradation alone cannot do. He advocated that trained teachers and good building is required and suggested for reforming the department. Imkong also called for using quality materials in road constructions. He argued that the carpeting of roads in some areas do not last for 5 or 6 months and called for using proper materials and supervision in road constructions.
Touching on state government’s declaration of Nagaland as “Land of festivals,’ Congress MLA Kheto has termed it as ‘celebrity and merry making’ government. He also abbreviated DAN as “Dancing Around Nagaland.” In agriculture sector where government announced to attain the goal “Food for all by 2020,” Kheto called for the need of hour to supply quality seeds and to provide the seeds to the people at the right time to enhance the production. He argued that the quality of seeds is “very very poor” and at the same time sufficient seeds are not provided to the people.
Touching on enhancement of honorarium and provision of uniform for Village Guards by the state government, MLA Langpha Konyak regretted that VGs do not posses weapon. He wondered how they can protect and defend the people without weapon. He opined that weapon be provided first and uniform comes at later stage.
