Industry Minister calls for economic sustainability

Kohima, Oct 21 (MExN): Minister for Industry and Commerce Khekiho Zhimomi today stressed on the need to adopt a comprehensive strategy to address and attain economic sustainability.

“We have to plan and work out about our sustainability,” the minister told the 14th General Session of Chakhesang Gazetted Officers Forum (CGOF) here at the Zonal Council Hall this morning.

Touching on the fast changing global economy scenario, the minister called upon the gathering to create more merit avenues so as to cope with the competitive world. “Global village is the only answer to meet our social demand,” he said. 

The minister also challenged the Chakhesang officers to extend whatever manner they can do today ‘for a better tomorrow.’ The minister donated Rs. 1 lakh towards the Forum’s fund.

Earlier, CGOF president Veprasa Nyekha felt the need to work for the benefit of the community apart from normal official assignments.
He opined that a joint fund be established for undertaking various community programmes. 

Nyekha stressed on the need to identify the prospects of promoting tourism in the district, which possesses immense potential to generate massive employment and incomes, wherever promoted.

He also emphasized on the need to spread awareness among farmers on the commercial viability of growing cash crops, explore means to take fullest advantage of the emerging trade and market opportunity, forth coming, through free trade zones identified in Phek district “that shall connect us with South East Asian market”; start a legal cell inside the Forum to guide members on various issues concerning service rules, promotions, retirement, pension benefits etc and also assist members in case of legal dispute with various agencies; encourage and motivate especially youths to take up small and medium business as an alternative to government jobs; take up with the government a matter to start professional courses in management and commerce in government colleges in the district.

Further, the president advocated on the need to link with various government and non-government  agencies including developmental houses like IDBI, SIDBI, NEDFi to promote entrepreneurs from the community and also facilitate training programmes among youth for showing  avenues of self-employment.

The CGOF has an active membership of around 380 and year-by-year our strength is growing, the president said.
Later, Vengota Nakro highlighted initial works in the preparation of master plan for sustainable development in Chakhesang villages of Phek district.

Minister for Agriculture, Printing and Stationary Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu also graced the second session as the guest of honour.
