Chümoukedima, July 7 (MExN): International University, Nagaland (IUN), in collaboration with the Western Chakhesang Students' Union (WCSU), organised a one-day Career Guidance Programme at the university campus at Sodzülhou and Kozabe Village, 7th Mile, Chümoukedima, on Tuesday.
According to a press release, the programme brought together students, parents, WCSU members and faculty to promote informed career planning, higher education and skill development.
In her keynote address, IUN Registrar Dr Roopam Bachhil urged students to choose academic programmes based on their aptitude, interests, financial considerations and emerging employment opportunities. She encouraged them to evaluate academic quality, industry relevance, research opportunities and practical learning while selecting institutions of higher education.
Dr Bachhil also highlighted the advantages of pursuing higher education within Nagaland, citing affordability, proximity to family and a supportive learning environment. She noted that institutions in the State are expanding academic offerings and strengthening industry linkages, enabling students to pursue rewarding careers while contributing to Nagaland's development.
WCSU president Arazo Nyekha appreciated the collaborative initiative and encouraged students to make the best use of career guidance programmes, mentoring opportunities and educational interactions to prepare for their future. He also lauded the university's outreach to student organisations across Nagaland.
Delivering the career talk, Prof Zavise Rume, Director of I UN, spoke on changing employment trends, entrepreneurship and the growing importance of practical skills alongside academic qualifications. He said the future job market increasingly values creativity, communication, problem-solving, digital literacy and adaptability, and encouraged students to embrace interdisciplinary learning and continuous self-improvement. He also highlighted opportunities in technology, healthcare, business, tourism, agriculture, education and entrepreneurship.
The programme featured interactive sessions during which students sought guidance on higher education, scholarships, admissions, internships and career prospects. Joint Registrar Dr Durga Malakar later made a presentation on the university's academic programmes, skill-based courses, admission procedures, scholarships and student support services.
In a press release, the IUN noted that the programme reaffirmed the shared commitment of the university and WCSU to helping students make informed educational and career choices while strengthening collaboration between higher educational institutions and student organisations in promoting youth development and educational opportunities in Nagaland.
