Phek, August 12 (MExN): International Youth Day 2026 was observed at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Phek, on August 12 under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.” The programme was organised by the District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS (DISHA), Phek, and sponsored by the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS).
The programme highlighted the role of young people in building a healthy and sustainable society and encouraged them to make responsible and informed choices.
ADC Phek Thejakhrienuo Nisa, NCS, who was the special guest, said youth have an important role in shaping the future. She noted that despite differences in backgrounds and circumstances, young people share common aspirations for a good and sustainable future.
Nisa called upon youth to participate actively in activities and remain focused on their studies, stressing that collective efforts by young people can help build and strengthen society.
As part of the programme, Nisa launched the 3rd Round of the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign on HIV/AIDS and flagged off a motorbike rally to create awareness on HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Phek Town Chakhesang Students' Union (PTCSU) President Vezovo Rakho said youth are not only the future but also torchbearers of positive change in the present. He urged students to explore opportunities and build careers across different sectors, noting that not every young person would necessarily secure a government job.
He also stressed the importance of setting clear goals for a sustainable future and appealed to the government to provide more platforms for young people to showcase their abilities, informed a press release from NHM Phek.
Other highlights included a special presentation by Class XII Science students of GHSS Phek. The keynote address was delivered by Kuduvo Kezo, DPO, DISHA, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Velato Nienu, AM&E, DISHA. The programme was chaired by Ruvohu Tsutso.
