JCF urges regulation of heavy vehicles during peak hours

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 14 (MExN): The Joint Council Forum (JCF) has appealed to the DCP (Traffic), Dimapur, to regulate the movement of heavy vehicles through the main town during school-going hours and peak traffic periods.

In a press release issued on August 14, the forum said heavy vehicle movement through the main town had previously been restricted during such hours, which "greatly contributed to the safety and smooth movement of the general public."

The JCF said heavy vehicles have recently been observed plying through the town during school hours and other peak periods, raising concerns over the safety of school-going children, pedestrians, two-wheelers and smaller vehicles.

"With the increasing traffic volume in Dimapur, heavy vehicles moving through congested town areas particularly at higher speeds may further increase the risk of accidents and traffic disruptions," it stated.

The forum requested the Traffic Police to take necessary measures to regulate or restrict heavy vehicle movement during peak hours. It also suggested that, wherever feasible, heavy vehicles be encouraged to use the four-lane highway instead of main town roads.
