DIMAPUR, JULY 30 (MExN): With time running out for the victim, Niuto S. Chishi, the Highway Area Sumi Students’ Union (HASSU) has stepped into the fray to support Niuto S. Chishi who had appeared for the Joint Entrance Exams (JEE) for the MBBS course and attained the 27th rank in the merit list. In spite of this, Chishi was left out and 2 undeserving candidates were selected purely on the minister’s personal decision, it was alleged. Both the candidates were ranked 464 and 627 respectively in the JEE merit list.
Hokugha Tuccu, President HASSU has stated that the student organization has decided to take up the issue of Niuto S. Chishi based on the fact that the victim is a member of the student organization, apart from the fact that they also have the evidence to prove that Niuto has been victimized by the higher powers that be. He further stressed that there were no political or tribal interests involved in this issue. Rather, it is an issue of common interest for all the right thinking people who wish to advocate fair competition in the Naga society. “It is Niuto S. Chishi today. Tomorrow it may be somebody else belonging to some other tribe. By then, it will be too late. We must stop these unfair and corrupt practices today before it becomes a festering problem in our Naga society. The layman stands no chance to progress forward when our ministers make unilateral decisions to favour their own sons” he said.
The HASSU has two objectives, namely, Niuto S. Chishi should be given what he deserves at the earliest possible time, i.e. the opportunity to take up the MBBS course; and the two undeserving candidates should be brought back from their respective MBBS colleges. If the government fails to clarify on this matter and set things right, the HASSU intends to take the issue to the streets and close down the National Highway 39, which is the main arterial road through which goods from the mainland enter the state of Nagaland. Meanwhile, the HASSU will be submitting a memorandum, pertaining to this issue, to both the Head of the State, Governor Shyamal Datta and the Head of the Government, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
Niuto S. Chishi attained 80% PCB in his Class XII board exams with distinctions in Chemistry and Biology. He said – “As a student, it is my duty to excel in whatever field I am in. With such things like this happening to me, I am now very discouraged. I’m only asking for what I have toiled long and hard for – nothing more, nothing less.”
