A large quantity of expired food and grocery items was confiscated and destroyed during a surprise inspection of shops in Satakha town on July 16.
The inspection was carried out by the Satakha Range Students’ Union (SRSU) with the support of the Satakha Town Youth Organisation (STYO), Police Department, district administration and various civil society organisations.
According to officials involved in the drive, more than seven wholesale and retail shops were inspected. During the inspection, a substantial quantity of expired products was found and immediately confiscated before being destroyed to prevent them from reaching consumers.

The inspection team also observed that several food and grocery products lacked essential labeling, including manufacturing and expiry dates.
Some products carried only a “Best Before” label, which officials said could mislead or confuse consumers regarding the actual safety and shelf life of the items.
Officials informed that shop owners have been directed not to sell such products until a consultative meeting is held and the quality and compliance of the products are verified by the competent authority.
The inspection team urged consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing goods by carefully checking expiry dates and product labels. They also appealed to the public to report any sale of expired or suspicious products to the appropriate authorities so that necessary action can be taken.
