Kohima, July 17 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has issued a clarification on the pace of development in the 60 Pungro-Kiphire Assembly Constituency, responding to recent social media criticism over poor road conditions while asserting that major reconstruction is pending due to an ongoing land acquisition survey.
In a statement issued by NPF 60 Pungro-Kiphire AC Information & Publicity Cell, the party acknowledged a video circulated by one Amongla Sangtam expressing concern over road infrastructure and questioning the efforts of the government and local MLA, Advisor S Kiusumew Yimkhiung. While respecting the right to dissent, the NPF appealed for “responsible and factual” public discourse.
The party explained that full-scale road reconstruction within Pungro Town has not been initiated because the District Administration is currently carrying out a damage land acquisition survey and assessment exercise. However, minor repairs and maintenance have been undertaken wherever required, through a collaborative effort involving the Yimkhiung Youth Organisation (YYO), Likimro Enterprise and the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
The NPF emphasised that the people of Pungro are aware of development works carried out under Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio’s leadership and through the “dedicated efforts” of the constituency’s MLA. The party expressed confidence that the constituency would continue to witness “meaningful and sustainable development” under the current administration.
The statement also urged social media users to verify facts and understand practical challenges before making public comments. “Constructive criticism is always welcome, as it strengthens accountability and good governance. However, public discourse should remain responsible, factual, and aimed at the collective progress of our society,” it added.
