JSUN and ZYOD demand decisive action over alleged assault of minor

Dimapur/Jalukie, June 5 (MExN): A 70-year-old resident of Old Jalukie Sector 'B' has been arrested over the alleged attempted sexual assault of a old minor. As per reports, the accused, identified as Inrietsi, was arrested on June 3 following a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victim’s father on June 2 at the Women Police Station in Jalukie.

The alleged incident reportedly occurred on May 31 in Dimapur.

Meanwhile, the Jalukie Students’ Union Nagaland (JSUN) and Zeliang Youth Organisation Dimapur (ZYOD), in separate statements, have condemned the incident and demanded decisive action against the accused.

Unequivocally denouncing the heinous act in the strongest possible terms, the JSUN urged every conscientious citizen to condemn such barbaric behaviour.

As per the Union, the accused, who had been absconding, was later apprehended from his native village, Ndunglwa in Peren District, and taken into police custody.

Accordingly, it demanded that law enforcement agencies conduct a swift, impartial, and thorough investigation to ensure the perpetrator is held fully accountable under the law.

Justice must be delivered promptly and decisively to uphold the dignity of the victim and restore public confidence in the rule of law, the Union added.

The JSUN also conveyed its full solidarity with the victim and her family, and called upon the community to rise united against such atrocities and collectively work towards fostering a safe, just, and respectful environment for all.

It also regretted that the incident has cast a shadow over the reputation of Jalukie Village and the broader Peren District, and stated that such acts are “utterly unacceptable and violate the fundamental values of our community.”

Such a reprehensible act is a gross violation of human dignity and poses a severe threat to the safety and well-being of our children, the ZYOD stated in its condemnation.

As per the organisation, the individual is reportedly a “habitual offender with a troubling history of similar crimes,” making the incident even more alarming.

In this connection, the ZYOD urged the law enforcement authorities to take immediate and decisive action against the accused, ensuring that he is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

It also demanded comprehensive support, protection, and rehabilitation for the minor victim involved in this distressing case.

It is imperative that justice is served promptly and with the utmost severity to establish a clear precedent that crimes of this nature will not be tolerated in the society, ZYOD stressed.

“We stand united in our commitment to protect our community’s children and ensure that such acts are met with the strongest possible response,” it added.
