Diphupar, June 23 (MExN): The responsible and ethical use of social media was emphasised during the Shepherd Revival-cum-Bible Talk organised by the Westen Sümi Akukuhou Kuqhakuku (WSBAK) at Sümi Baptist Church, Diphupar, on June 23.
Addressing the gathering on the topic “Judicious Use of Social Media,” media personality Vitoka K Aye highlighted both the opportunities and challenges presented by digital platforms. He urged users to focus on making a positive impact online and cautioned against the misuse of social media, particularly in matters involving privacy, security and public discourse.
Emphasising the role of church leaders as custodians of trust and moral authority, Aye called for restraint when engaging with contentious issues on social media and stressed the need to safeguard the integrity of church communications.
He also encouraged churches to utilise digital platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to expand outreach efforts and engage younger generations and those unable to attend physical services.
Highlighting the legal implications of online activities, Aye underscored the importance of understanding relevant laws relating to defamation and the circulation of objectionable content. He warned that forwarding unlawful content on social media could attract legal liability.
Pointing to the constructive use of social media, he cited examples of online fundraising initiatives that supported medical treatment, COVID-19 relief efforts and social causes.
Aye further urged the community to use technology to strengthen relationships, avoid hasty judgments and foster a positive online environment consistent with Christian values and ethics.
The programme concluded with an appeal for continued digital prudence and the responsible use of social media for community service and ministry, informed a press release received here.
