Kiphire, February 24 (MExN): Affirming its dedication to fairness and integrity in the transportation industry, the Kiphire District Commercial Vehicle Union (KDCVU) has reiterated the need for strict adherence to the prescribed freight rates set by the district administration.
AS per the union, the established freight rate is Rs 3.50 per kilogram for Long Platform Trucks (LPT) transporting commercial and essential commodities from Dimapur to Kiphire.
Accordingly, the KDCVU has issued notifications to its members, transport operators, drivers, and stakeholders, stressing the mandatory compliance with the fixed freight rate.
Any commercial vehicle found deviating from the specified rate will face penalties imposed by the KDCVU, cautioned a press release from the union.
The union also expressed concern about unauthorized transporters operating without registration, ferrying loads at rates below the prescribed tariff, disrupting fair competition within the industry.
It further alleged that these unregistered transporters engage in unlawful activities by transporting illegal Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) to compensate for revenue shortfalls, selling them at black market rates.
Consequently, genuine KDCVU transport vehicles face challenges as customers prefer lower rates, it added.
In response, the KDCVU has formed a dedicated committee and volunteers to monitor all trucks and vehicles along the Dimapur to Kiphire route.
Any vehicle found carrying illegal IMFL will be seized immediately and handed over to the police for further action, it said, adding that the proactive measures aim to curb illegal activities and maintain the integrity of the transportation sector.
In this connection, the union has urged cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure a level playing field and foster a harmonious environment within the transportation industry by strictly adhering to fixed freight rate.
