Kiphire GBs oppose short-term NH-202 contract

Kiphire, August 19 (MExN): The Kiphire District Gaon Buras (GBs) Association has registered strong opposition to the declaration of a short-term maintenance contract for National Highway-202, demanding long-term, equitable road infrastructure development for the district instead.

In a formal representation submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire, signed by Association President K Tsilise GB, the traditional village elders' body expressed deep concern over the persistent neglect of the district's connectivity needs.

The association noted that while several other districts across Nagaland have long been benefiting from two-lane and four-lane highway networks, Kiphire continues to struggle with basic, reliable connectivity. The body termed this disparity a matter of serious concern that causes severe public hardship and undermines the principles of fairness, equity, and balanced regional growth.

Highlighting that decisions concerning public infrastructure must be anchored in transparency and equal consideration for all regions, the association stated that every citizen is entitled to safe connectivity and constitutional equality.

Urging the Deputy Commissioner's intervention to apprise higher authorities of the grassroots resentment, the Kiphire District GBs' Association appealed to the competent authorities to review the short-term maintenance decision and initiate permanent, long-term road development measures in the larger interest of public welfare.
