The Kohima District-Level Round of the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament was conducted at Alder College, Kohima, under the theme “One Nation, One Election.”

Nzanthung Y Ezung secured the first position, while Kethoneinuo Vimero of St Joseph’s College, Jakhama, and Logan Jeke Tamin of Nagaland University secured second and third positions, respectively.

The top three winners will represent Kohima district at the forthcoming state-level round of the competition.

The event was organised by MY Bharat Kohima as part of the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2027 under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, in collaboration with Alder College, with Nagaland College Media (NCM) as the student outreach partner.

The event brought together young participants aged 18–25 years from nine colleges and institutions across the district to deliberate on an important national issue, encouraging democratic participation, constitutional awareness, leadership and responsible citizenship.

The participating institutions included Alder College, Kohima Law College, St Joseph’s College, Jakhama, Kohima College, Baptist College, Don Bosco College, Model Christian College, Nagaland University and NIELIT.

During the parliamentary debate, participants presented their views on the theme, demonstrating their understanding of public policy, democratic processes and national development.

‘Do duty to achieve vision of Viksit Bharat@2047’
Speaking on the occasion as the special guest, MLA Dr Tseilhoutuo Rhutso (Ato) called upon every individual to perform their duties to achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

“If you fight only for your rights, we will never achieve Viksit Kohima, Viksit Nagaland, Viksit Bharat. Rights alone cannot get us anywhere, but duties will definitely take us forward,” he said.

“If you want to have a developed nation, it has to start from every state. And within the state, it has to start from every district,” Dr Ato said.
Speaking on the debate theme, “One Nation, One Election,” he said that the majority supported the policy.

He said the main idea was to spend less on elections and save time.

“If you want to have good governance, if you want to have all the facilities, if you want to have a developed country, choose your leaders who have a vision, not who has money,” he told the youth.

To achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat and Viksit Nagaland, he added, the youth must promote clean elections and choose good leaders who are elected without spending money.

Pradeep J, District Youth Officer, MY Bharat Kohima, informed that the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament had been designed as a flagship national platform to bring together the finest young minds of the country.

Inspired by the vision of the Prime Minister, the initiative aims to cultivate constitutional values, foster democratic participation and prepare a new generation of dynamic, solution-oriented youth leaders who will serve as the architects of India’s future as the country moves towards Viksit Bharat@2047, he said.

The programme was compered by Avinuo Zumu, while Ruopfhüvituo Mepfhüo, youth evangelist at Nagaland Pentecostal Church, invoked God’s blessings.

The panel of jurors included Dr Ketoukhrie-ü, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Kohima College; L Thsidelong Sangtam, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Baptist College, Kohima; Dr Anuj Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema; Khrieneikuo Zumu, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, Kohima College; and Zhovi Dukru, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Pfutsero Government College.
