The Hindu community of Kohima under the banner of Baba Nageshwar Nath Mandir Kohima today celebrated Maha Shivratri at Shiv Mandir, Dzudza (Jotsoma) NH- 29 Bypass.

Maha Shivaratri is a Hindu festival celebrated annually to worship the deity Shiva, between February and March.

Maha Shivratri celebrates Lord Shiva and is observed for several key reasons, primarily marking the divine wedding of Shiva and Parvati, the night Shiva performed the cosmic dance (Tandava), and when he appeared as the infinite Linga (Lingodbhav Moorti) at midnight, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness, spiritual awakening, and purification for devotees through fasting, prayer, and meditation.

The celebration of Maha Shivratri at Shiv Mandir was marked by prayer, cultural activities and offering free food to all who attended.

Brahma Kumaris Meditation Centre, Kohima also joined the celebration and propagated a healthy lifestyle and a healthy soul.
