Dimapur, Febraury (MExN): The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) units of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) conducted various programmes across Nagaland during the month of February in relation to farming and animal husbandry.
Longleng: ICAR KVK Longleng conducted its 11th Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting at KVK training hall on February 22 with Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj IAS, as special guest. During the programme, the KVK progress report for the year 2023 was presented by Dr Lily Ngullie, ACTO (Animal Science) and Action plan for the year 2024 was presented by Dr Hari Charan Kalita, Senior Scientist cum Head, KVK Longleng. The DC in his address challenged the scientists to find an alternative to Jhum cultivation by cultivating high valuemedicinal crops as the land is fertile and unpolluted. He encouraged the allied department to work in convergence with KVK for better output of the farmers in the district and assured full co-operation from administrative side in implementing any projects.
Peren: Kisan mela and Farmers Scientist interaction programme was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Peren, ICAR, Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Center, Jalukie along with a Plant Genetic Resources Conservation Awareness program in collaboration NBPGR, New Delhi. The programme was held at New Town hall, Tening Town on February 22 and attended by Officials from Agri & Allied Dept, Village Council Chiefs and farmer representatives from twenty villages Small Agri inputs and tools were distributed to all the farmer representatives.
Phek: Exposure visit cum hands on training of progressive farmers of NICRA villages under Phek district on Agriculture and allied sector was conducted at ICAR-NRC on Mithun, ICAR-RCNEHR, Nagaland Centre, and Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema and Konger Agritech Pvt Ltd, Dimapur by KVK Phek, ICAR-NRCM from Febraruy 14 to 16. The farmers also visited the mushroom laboratories and practical session was demonstrated on oyster mushroom. Altogether 20 farmers from K Basa, Thipuzu, Kikruma, Pfutseromiand Phusachodu villages of Phek participated in the exposure cum hands-on training programme. Furthermore, KVK Phek unit conducted a two day training programme on Integrated farming system for livelihood security of farmers as well.
Zunheboto: KVK, Nagaland University, Zunheboto organised a three day farmers exposure tour from February 20-22 at ICAR, Barapani, Central Potato Research Station, Shillong and Goat Research Station, AAU, Burnihat, Assam. The team was led by Dr Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, PI and Principal Scientist WapangtoshiLongkumer CO - PI and Chief Technical Officer (Plant Protection) under the Project Tribal Community Development sponsored by ICAR, New Delhi .The programme started with the objective of “Seeing is believing” and with a view to create awareness among the farming communities about the latest technological interventions which can be adopted or replicated by the farmers when they come back at their farm.
