Dimapur, July 16 (MExN): ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dimapur celebrated the 98th Foundation Day of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on July 16. The programme was organised to commemorate ICAR's remarkable contributions to agricultural research, education and extension services, while promoting the adoption of improved agricultural technologies among farming communities.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist-cum-Head, ICAR-KVK Dimapur, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the glorious 98-year journey of ICAR. She emphasised the organization’s pioneering role in transforming Indian agriculture through scientific research, technology development, and farmer-centric extension programmes that have significantly contributed to enhancing agricultural productivity and improving farmers’ livelihoods.

As part of the celebration, the participants joined the live screening of the 98th ICAR Foundation Day programme, enabling the farmers to witness the national-level celebrations and gain insights into the latest developments and achievements of ICAR. In addition to that, training cum input distribution under CFLD on Oilseeds was also conducted. 

During the technical session, Dr Bendangla Imsong, Chief Technical Officer (Plant Breeding), delivered a comprehensive lecture on the scientific cultivation practices of soybean. She explained the importance of selecting quality seed, timely sowing, maintaining optimum plant spacing, nutrient management, weed control, and integrated pest and disease management for achieving higher productivity and better economic returns. She also encouraged farmers to adopt improved production technologies for sustainable soybean cultivation.

To promote environmental conservation, a tree plantation drive was also organized within the ICAR-KVK Dimapur office premises. To promote soybean cultivation in the district, 600 kgs of DSB-32 soybean seed along with row markers were distributed among the participating farmers. The distribution of quality seed and farm implements is expected to facilitate the adoption of scientific cultivation practices and improve crop productivity in the region.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers representing six villages, who interacted with the scientists and expressed their interest in adopting the recommended technologies for improving soybean production.
