Awareness cum Medical Health Camp and Aadhaar Seeding was held at the Directorate of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Kohima on August 6.

KOHIMA, AUGUST 6 (MExN): The Labour Department, in collaboration with the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), conducted an awareness cum medical health camp and Aadhaar seeding on August 6.
The event took place in the conference hall of the Directorate of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Kohima. Zaremo Kikon, Asst Labour Commissioner, Kohima, chaired the programme and welcomed the employees, emphasizing the importance of the ESI Scheme and the need for creating awareness among the employees covered under the scheme.
During the event, Mario Manirhü, Asst. Director of ESIC Regional Office Guwahati, delivered a presentation on the benefits of ESI and the role and responsibility of employers in enrolling their employees. He explained that ESI is a social security Health Insurance Scheme under the Ministry of Labour & Employment and administered by the ESI Corporation. The scheme is applicable to factories and other establishments with 10 or more workers, whose salary is equal to or below Rs. 21,000/-. Contributions from both employers and employees finance ESI, with rates set at 3.25% and .75% respectively.
The scheme provides various benefits, including Medical Benefit for insured persons, their spouses, and dependants, as well as Sickness Benefit, Disablement Benefit, Dependant Benefit, and Maternity Benefit. The presenter also highlighted that failing to register with the scheme may result in penalties, including interest, damages, and retrospective mandatory contributions. Establishments were encouraged to register as soon as possible to avoid such penalties. The Shram Suvidha Portal was mentioned as the platform for establishment and worker registration.
The programme primarily targeted coverable establishments located between Keziekie and New Secretariat in Kohima.
After the sensitization program, all attendees were offered free medical checkups. Aadhaar seeding was also conducted for workers who were already registered under the scheme. In total, 85 workers from 10 establishments participated in the programme.
The Labour Department shared that a previous Awareness cum Medical Health Camp was held in Dimapur on 22nd July, 2023. Around 148 workers attended the programme and received free medical checkups. The department announced that similar awareness programmes will be organized for coverable establishments in other areas in the near future.
