Dimapur, October 3 (MExN): The Luangdimai Citizens Forum (LCF) has expressed profound shock and deep sorrow over the sudden and tragic passing of two senior Indian Information Service (IIS) officers—Dr Engam Pame, Additional Director General, Press Information Bureau (PIB), Imphal, and Nampibou Marinmai, Director, Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), Aizawl—in a road mishap near Sateek Village in Mizoram. The two officers were on official duty when the fatal accident occurred.
Dr Engam Pame, who served as Additional Director General of PIB and the Central Bureau of Communication, Regional Office Imphal, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, was a distinguished 1994-batch Civil Services Examination officer allotted to the IIS.
Hailing originally from Katang Village in Tamenglong, Manipur, and growing up under modest financial circumstances, he completed his early education at Christian Model English School, Tamenglong, passed his matriculation with distinction from Mizo Modern High School in Shillong, and later pursued higher education in Delhi.
Known for his leadership, academic excellence, physical fitness, and martial arts expertise, including holding a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Shotokan Karate, Dr Pame made immense contributions to public information, communication, and community initiatives, notably serving as the lead organizer (Ngaipi chairman) of the Makuiluangdi Festival 2025 and contributing to the Luangdilat Khuang word book project. He leaves behind his wife and two children.
Nampibou Marinmai, Director of Doordarshan Kendra, Aizawl, also hailed from Chiang Village in Tamenglong district, Manipur. His untimely demise alongside Dr Pame represents an irreparable loss to the Government of India, the IIS, and the Luangdimai and Zeliangrongpui communities.
The LCF noted that the tragedy has deprived the nation of two experienced officers who rose from challenging early circumstances to occupy responsible positions in public service. The forum extended heartfelt condolences and prayers to the bereaved families during this hour of profound grief.
