LONGLENG, APRIL 9 (MExN): The 3rd Longleng District Inter-Departmental Tournament commenced on April 9 at the Indoor Badminton Stadium in Longleng, with Executive Secretary of PBCA, N. Tialemba Phom, as the special guest.
Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Sports Council Longleng, W. Manpai Phom, delivered the welcome address, and an invocation prayer was led by Pastor LTBC, Rev. H Beau Phom.
In his address, N. Tialemba Phom emphasized the vital role that games and sports play across the country in bringing people together, exploring inner qualities, and developing abilities. He expressed hope that the inter-departmental tournament in Longleng would foster unity and strengthen the bonds between departments. Citing the example of how sports have played a pivotal role in bringing together Naga political groups despite their political and ideological differences, he expressed optimism that this event would reflect unity, foster relationships between departments, and create lasting connections that nurture growth. He further added that the event could serve as a model for the people of the district.
The oath-taking ceremony was led by District Sports Officer Kenongoto Thokhwe, while Phom Lempong Higher Secondary School presented a special performance. The program was chaired by Assistant Horticulture Officer Angngoi Buchem.
The two-day event will feature sports disciplines such as badminton, tug of war, carom, air rifle shooting, table tennis, and football penalty shootouts. The tournament officially began with a declaration by the special guest.
