Longleng, October 14 (MExN): The Electrical Department, Longleng, organised an awareness programme on the Seva Setu Abhiyan under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana at the DPDB Hall, Longleng, on October 14.

At the event, Executive Engineer Temjensangba CTN briefed the gathering on the rooftop solar scheme and highlighted the benefits of generating electricity for household consumption.

He explained that surplus electricity generated during the day could be fed into the grid and drawn from the grid after sunset, when solar panels stop generating power. He also outlined the government subsidies available to eligible consumers, according to a DIPR report.

Shilunaro Jamir of M/S Shan Enterprises, an empanelled rooftop solar (RTS) vendor, explained the application process for availing subsidies, including the approval and installation procedures. She also briefed the gathering on the timeline and stages involved in releasing the subsidy amount to beneficiaries.

C Mhaden Yanthan, a representative of the State Bank of India (SBI), clarified that beneficiaries must claim the subsidy individually through the designated portal, as the bank does not process subsidy claims on their behalf.

He further informed that loans of up to Rs 2 lakh were available for rooftop solar installations of up to 3 kW capacity. Applicants must be between 18 and 65 years of age, with a maximum loan tenure of 10 years, he said.

The programme was chaired by SDO (Electrical) Er Moichung Shambu Phom.
