Kohima, October 14 (MExN): A three-day Seva Setu Abhiyan under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is being conducted at Secretariat Junction, Kohima, from October 14 to 16 to promote rooftop solar installations and facilitate access to the scheme’s benefits.
Organised by the Department of Power, the camp aims to create awareness and assist eligible residential households with registration, application procedures and installation guidance. It also facilitates on-the-spot registration and provides information on government subsidies, bank loans and installation requirements. Consumers can choose from 26 empanelled vendors across the State for rooftop solar installations.
Principal Secretary, Power, Dr. KD Vizo urged citizens to avail themselves of the benefits of solar energy, highlighting the subsidies offered by the Central and State governments, banking facilities and potential savings on electricity bills.
He said solar energy could help the government reduce expenditure on power purchases while enabling consumers to benefit from surplus power generation. He also highlighted the availability of on-grid, off-grid and hybrid solar systems and stressed the need for greater public awareness to encourage wider adoption.
Vizo encouraged citizens to make use of the facilities and resources provided by the Government of India to promote solar energy.
Chief Engineer, D&R, Department of Power, Er Lobosang Jamir, said the initiative seeks to raise awareness and reduce dependence on grid electricity by promoting rooftop solar adoption.
