Longleng, March 27 (MExN): The representatives from the Ministries of Health & Family Welfare, School Education & Literacy joined forces with school leaders to roll out the School Health and Wellness Programme (SHWP) at Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA) convention hall in Longleng on March 25.

According to an update from the CMO of Longleng, a three-day rollout and training on AB-SHWP to train the H&W Ambassadors and H&W Messengers was conducted from March 25 to 27 at the PBCA convention hall.

The orientation programme of principals, headmasters and head teachers on “school health & wellness programme” under Ayushman Bharat for district of Longleng commenced on March 25.

During an orientation on AB-SHWP, Dr Khelito Zhimomi, State Programme Officer-RMNCAH+N, NHM Nagaland delivering her keynote address said that the SHWP aims to increase knowledge about health and nutrition, encourage positive attitudes, and enhance life skills to promote informed, responsible, and healthy behavior among school-going children.

The programme empowers adolescents as agents of change or “health messengers,” enabling them to spread key health messages within their communities. It also establishes robust linkages between schools, Health and Wellness Centers (HWCs), and Adolescent-Friendly Health Clinics (AFHCs) to ensure a continuum of care between HWCs, higher facilities, schools, and communities. She also mentioned that school played a crucial role in helping students establish healthy behaviour for their lifetime and informed that two teachers from each school would be trained as “health & wellness ambassadors”. The students would then act as health & wellness messengers in the society and work on improving health practices in their community.

Imkongnukla Ao, NCS EAC HQ Longleng in her short speech said that AB-SHWP in Longleng is the dire need of the students’ health and wellness as well as their mental health. She stressed on the need to address the substance abuse among student groups, nutritional needs and sexual health, and with this great initiative the AB-SHWP program will emphasised on the importance of counselling in school as children from different economic and social status underwent different psychological experiences.
