LVC clarify October 10 incident

Kiphire, October 14 (MExN): The Longtsunger Village Citizens (LVC) has issued an official statement to clarify the sequence of events surrounding the October 10, 2026 violence in Longtsunger village, aiming to counter widespread misinformation and rumours on social media.

According to the LVC, villagers were going about their daily lives in peace when armed intruders from the Kiusam area equipped with sophisticated weaponry entered the village without warning.

The attackers allegedly targeted the residence of the Village Council Chairman, damaged property, set fire to residential structures and public properties, and opened fire with heavy firearms.

In response, local residents confronted the attackers, resulting in a violent clash where one alleged intruder was shot dead at the scene and others sustained injuries. The deceased was subsequently taken into the custody of the civil administration.

Strongly condemning the incident as a pre-planned attack involving an armed mob, the LVC has called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the violence and the destruction of property.

The LVC also expressed grave concern over the alleged dereliction of duty by nine Village Guards (VGs) assigned to protect the village, stating that the personnel failed to discharge their responsibilities, deserted their posts, and absconded with government-issued weapons.

The union demanded immediate government intervention, a thorough inquiry, and legal action against the concerned personnel.

While expressing sorrow over the tragic incident, the LVC urged authorities to ensure justice, maintain peace, and prevent further violence.

The union further cautioned that any further intrusion or action threatening the village's peace and territorial integrity would be viewed with utmost seriousness, while calling upon all concerned to respect the rule of law.
