Aims to unite Zeme language across three states

Jalukie, April 29 (MExN): The maiden Anglo-Zeme dictionary, titled Zeme Samriak, was formally released at a programme held at the NZPO Conference Hall (Rest House) in Jalukie on April 28, marking a significant step towards linguistic unity among the Zeme community spread across Assam, Manipur and Nagaland.

The dictionary was widely welcomed by Zeme intellectuals from across Northeast India, who described it as a vital initiative to establish a common linguistic platform for the Zeme kindred community and to preserve the language for future generations.

The publication also paid tribute to the late Raitu Elu Ndang, a pioneer of the Zeme Samriak initiative, who passed away on July 5, 2024. An obituary was observed during the programme in recognition of his contributions to the development and promotion of the Zeme language.

The Anglo-Zeme dictionary has been compiled by N Haisoyi Ndang and Isamrangbe Pame, and includes illustrative content. The work was undertaken in accordance with a resolution of the Zeme Literature Board, North East India.

The programme began with an invocation prayer offered by Alan Pame, followed by the dedication of the dictionary by Rev Dr Mongzeung Mpom, President of the Nagaland Baptist Pastors’ Union and President of ZBCC Nagaland.

Officials representing the Zeme Councils of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland were also present at the event, underscoring the collaborative effort across the three states.

The dictionary was officially released by Koheuteung Chuilo, Chairman of the Zeme Literature Board, North East India, who also served as the chief host of the programme.

The event concluded with a benediction prayer delivered by Nchaheing Hemang.
