Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh will convene a cabinet meeting on Monday, April 20, to discuss on the post-April 20 measures with regard to COVID-19 lockdown.
An official source said that the lockdown measures, which have been in force in the state to check spread of COVID-19 will continue as it is till Monday, April 20, without any changes.
The activities and items on whether restrictions can be lifted in a phased wise manner will be discussed by the state cabinet on Monday, the source also said.
Exemption of any activity from the lockdown or scheduled relaxation of any activity and the date from which it will be exempted or the days on which it will be relaxed will be notified after the decision of the scheduled cabinet meeting, the source added.
It can also be mentioned here that a total of 69 prisoners have been released in Manipur, in a move to decongest the jails in Manipur in the wake of COVID-19 issue.
Sixty-nine prisoners including a convict were released to decongest jails on Saturday.
Of the 69 prisoners, 64 of them were released from Sajiwa Jail while the remaining five from Central Jail, Imphal in compliance of the Supreme Court’s directives.
They were released on interim bail/parole for three months by the concerned courts of Manipur on the recommendation of the High Powered Committee.
The committee with Justice Kh Nobin Singh as chairman was constituted by Manipur government to take up measures to decongest the prisons in the state in view of the outbreak of corona virus in the country.
State chief secretary Dr J Suresh Babu is the secretary and additional DGP (prisons) P Doungel is the member of the committee.
The released prisoners were transported and dropped to their respective residences by the concerned district police in view of the present lockdown and curfew in the state.
